Cheers to Friends!

Life may not be perfect. There are the occasional hints of impending foul weather and even full-blown thunderstorms but I’ve learned to “dance in the rain instead of waiting for the storm to pass”.

Despite the imperfections, life can still be wonderful and I have many things to be thankful for. Good friends, great kids, long life (aka stiff joints and memory loss, ouch!) more than enough to eat, a sturdy roof over my head… the list goes on.

"I have a good excuse," I said to myself recently, "to gather a few close friends to share a meal and create some lovely moments."  I called Meg whose birthday fell just the other day and told her I was going to give her a treat.

“We’ll celebrate our attaining old age together,” I said, “as well as my receiving my first-ever royalty cheque!”

Morgan, our friend from college, agreed to ‘grace the occasion’.

I invited Metallica (not her real name), another friend from college.

“I’ll tell you tomorrow morning,” she said. The next day she called past noon to tell she won’t be joining us. She was busy. “‘But I might be free next week,” she said. That meant there’d be a chance that she won’t be free.

I’m not one to demand for ‘instant gratification’ but I didn’t want to postpone our treat to some vague date in the distant future. Especially since next year is 2012. Besides I had already invited Meg and Morgan, and I was already drooling just thinking about Thai food.

Imagine my surprise when Meg told me later that Metallica had a wedding to attend.

“Oh? She didn’t tell me!”

And imagine how the surprise turned to shock when the wedding happened to be the wedding of Will and Kate. On TV! She didn’t want to miss it! OMG!

But I guess I could excuse her because she (a female AND a romantic like me) wanted to watch all the romance and pageantry…live… along with the rest of the world. I could understand her because Mr. Hubby (a male and definitely NOT a romantic!) was also glued to the TV yesterday afternoon watching the same ceremony.

This morning I woke up to find Mr. Hubby watching the re-run of yesterday’s wedding!  I had to pick my jaw off the floor and re-roll my eyes so my eyeballs face the correct direction. I thought he was overdoing it a wee bit. I don’t know if there’s something wrong with me. Or with him.

Our Thai food dinner? It was delicious and colourful. Red and yellow; white, orange and all shades of green. Hot and creamy, sweet and sour, and I stuffed myself silly. Metallica didn’t know what she was missing.

Because Morgan asked, the staff assured us they “won’t kick us out before closing time” which is 10.30pm. We enjoyed each other’s company so much we were still there long after all the other diners had left.

  1. Thai food, mmmm..yummy! If only they don't use too much MSG in their cooking, I would have them at least twice a week. Royal wedding? Err..somehow I don't have any interest following it. Maybe something is wrong with me. Maybe I'm not romantic anymore lol.

    Let me 'introduce' you all!

Sintaicharles and I attended the same writing workshop held in KK recently.
Glen is a former student, one of my favourites (though I tried not to show it) and he's now a budding photographer!
